Former members of excellent, short-fused Manchester outift, WU LYF, have already gone on to do some great things outside of their combustible original group. Francis Lung played bass in the band and also contributed some rather pretty backing vocals from time to time; he's already had one crack of the whip as a solo artist but his heart possibly wasn't totally in it as 'Back One Day' is the first song we've heard from Lung since February 2014. My word has it been worth the wait. Taken from his forthcoming debut EP, Faeher's Son, 'Back One Day' is precisely the sort of sensitive pop single we've come to expect from Lung, with an onus on creating something accessible, catchy and utterly human, all bound together with fluttering guitar melodies and dreamy vocals in one neat parcel. A sublime return to form, let's hope he's here to stay this time. - DC
